Guitar Lessons for Adults in Brooklyn

Private, one-on-one guitar lessons for adults who want to enjoy playing more, make steady progress, and feel confident with the instrument.
We focus on the songs you love, the skills that matter to you, and finding the most natural, comfortable way for your hands to make the music.
Whether you’re new to the guitar or have been playing for years, lessons are guided by your goals, your sound, and your curiosity.

Learning Guitar as an Adult Is Different

Learning guitar as an adult can be deeply satisfying. You bring taste, curiosity, and life experience to the instrument — and you usually know what you want to play.

It can also be frustrating.

Maybe you’ve worked with videos, apps, online lessons, or books and still feel stuck. You understand what you’re supposed to do — but it just doesn’t sound or feel right when you play it.

They can’t hear you.

Online tools are great at delivering information, but they can’t listen. They can’t respond to how your hands move, where tension shows up, or why something feels harder than it should. That’s often where adult players get stuck.

A More Personal Way to Learn

In our sessions, I listen closely to how you play and what you’re trying to sound like. Lessons are built around your musical interests, your learning style, and the sound you want to develop — so you can keep moving forward without forcing or guessing.

  • finding the most natural way for your hands to work with the guitar
  • focusing on music you actually care about
  • understanding what to practice and why
  • seeing the next step clearly, without getting bored or stuck

Hi — I’m Bryan Wade

I’ve been teaching guitar for over 25 years and have worked with hundreds of players at every stage. What matters most to me as a teacher is listening — to how you play, how you learn, and what you want to get out of the instrument. Lessons are built around you, your music, and the most natural way for your hands to make the sound you’re after.

What Students Say

Carole S.

“I hadn’t played my guitar in years when I decided I wanted to play again, and I was so nervous.
But Bryan was so understanding and easy to be with.”

“He’s gently encouraged me and helped me become a better and more confident musician — and, most important, to really enjoy playing my guitar again.”

Andrea C.

“Bryan has a calm demeanor and is such a good listener — each session feels entirely customized.”

“It’s fun to have a side quest at my age. I like feeling progression and noticing my brain changing.”

Many adult students come in unsure if they still ‘have it.’ These lessons meet you exactly where you are — and help you move forward without pressure.

How Lessons Usually Work

Most lessons follow a simple rhythm: a quick check-in and warm-up, one or two focused songs or ideas to work on, and no pressure to do more than feels useful.

Who These Lessons Are For

  • adults starting later in life
  • players returning after time away
  • musicians who feel plateaued
  • anyone who wants guidance without being talked down to

No pressure. Just a chance to meet and see if it’s a good fit.
