Guitar Lesson Policies

My goal is to keep lesson scheduling and billing straightforward while giving you a consistent regular lesson time.

Weekly lessons are reserved on a quarterly basis, with tuition paid monthly. Adult and school-age lessons have slightly different arrangements, so I've outlined how each works below, along with answers to some common questions.

Upcoming Makeup Dates

Fall 2026
  • Saturday, November 21
  • Saturday, December 12

Makeup sessions are by advance reservation and subject to availability.

Adult Weekly Lessons At a Glance

  • Quarterly enrollment: Your regular weekly time is reserved in three-month periods: January–March, April–June, July–September, and October–December.
  • Monthly tuition: Tuition is paid in a consistent monthly amount rather than changing according to the number of lessons in a particular month.
  • Cancellations: Please give me at least 24 hours' notice when you need to cancel. For October–December 2026, your first qualifying cancellation is eligible for a designated makeup session, and your second receives a credit toward the following month's tuition. Beginning January 2027, one qualifying cancellation per quarter is eligible for a makeup, with no additional credits or makeups.
  • Makeups: I set aside two designated makeup Saturdays each quarter rather than arranging individual makeup times throughout the regular teaching week.
  • Stopping lessons: If you decide to discontinue, I'll need 30 days' notice. Your regular time remains reserved during that 30-day period.

School Age Lessons At a Glance

  • School-year enrollment: School-age lessons run September through June. September tuition is due by July 15 to reserve your child's regular lesson time, followed by quarterly enrollment from October through June.
  • Monthly tuition: Tuition is a consistent monthly amount throughout the school year.
  • School breaks: Winter, midwinter, and spring breaks are already excluded from the school-age schedule and tuition.
  • Cancellations: Please give me at least 24 hours' notice when your child needs to miss a lesson. For October–December 2026, the first qualifying cancellation is eligible for a designated makeup session, and the second receives a lesson-value credit. Beginning January 2027, one qualifying cancellation per quarter is eligible for a makeup, with no additional credits or makeups.
  • Summer: July and August are outside regular enrollment. Summer lessons can be scheduled individually, subject to availability.

Adult Weekly Lessons FAQ

How does tuition work?

Weekly lessons are enrolled quarterly, with tuition paid in consistent monthly installments.

60-minute weekly lessons: $350/month

Your tuition reserves your regular weekly time. Some months naturally have more scheduled lessons than others, but your monthly tuition stays the same.

What does quarterly enrollment mean?

Your regular weekly lesson time is reserved for you for each three-month period: January
January-March
April-June
July-September
October-December

You'll receive an invoice each month—you're not being asked to pay for three months at once.

What if I need to cancel a lesson?

Please give me at least 24 hours' notice when you need to cancel (text is best).

For October–December 2026:

  • Your first qualifying cancellation is eligible for one of the quarter's designated makeup sessions.

  • Your second qualifying cancellation receives a lesson-value credit toward the following month's tuition.

  • Additional cancellations, cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice, and no-shows are not eligible for a makeup or credit.

Beginning January 2027:

One qualifying cancellation per quarter is eligible for a designated makeup session. Additional cancellations receive no makeup or credit.

How Do makeup lessons work?

I schedule two designated makeup Saturdays each quarter, approximately three weeks apart, with the second near the end of the quarter.

If you have a qualifying cancellation eligible for a makeup, you can reserve a lesson on one of those Saturdays, subject to availability.

Makeup opportunities must be used within the quarter. Once you've reserved a makeup session, canceling or missing it uses that opportunity.

School-Age Lessons FAQ

How does school-age enrollment work?

Regular school-age enrollment runs from September through June. September is handled as a separate prepaid month.

From October through June, lessons are organized into three quarterly enrollment periods, with tuition paid in equal monthly installments.

What is school-age tuition?

60-minute weekly lessons: $335/month
45-minute weekly lessons: $295/month
30-minute weekly lessons: $215/month

The monthly amount stays consistent even though the number of scheduled lessons may vary from month to month.

What about school breaks?

Winter break, midwinter break, and spring break are already left out of the school-age schedule and tuition.

You don't need to treat those weeks as cancellations.

What if my child needs to miss a lesson?

Please give me at least 24 hours' notice when your child needs to miss a lesson (text is best).

For October–December 2026, the first qualifying cancellation is eligible for a designated makeup session, and the second receives a lesson-value credit toward the following month's tuition.

Beginning January 2027, one qualifying cancellation per quarter is eligible for a makeup, with no additional credits or makeups.

Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice and no-shows are not eligible for a makeup or credit.

What happens in July and August?

July and August aren't part of regular school-age enrollment, so there's no regular tuition during those months.

If you'd like some lessons during the summer, individual lessons can be scheduled separately when I have availability.

How do we keep our lesson time for September?

September tuition is due by July 15 to guarantee your existing lesson time for September.

That payment is your tuition for September-not an additional fee or deposit-and is non-refundable once paid.

If I don't receive September tuition by July 15, I can't guarantee that I'll be able to hold the time through the summer.

Policies for All Students FAQ

Can I reschedule my regular lesson to another day?

Regular weekly lessons can't normally be moved to another day.

If you need to miss a lesson, the cancellation policy for your enrollment plan applies. This lets me accommodate cancellations without having to rearrange other students' regular lesson times.

What if you cancel a lesson?

If I need to cancel a lesson, you'll receive a full lesson-value credit toward your next tuition installment.
The credit is $85 for a 60-minute lesson, $75 for a 45-minute lesson, or $55 for a 30-minute lesson. If you have a discounted tuition arrangement, the credit will reflect your individual lesson rate.
If I cancel a lesson, it doesn't count toward your quarterly cancellation allowance.

What if I'm going to be away for several weeks?

If you'd like me to continue holding your regular lesson time while you're away, tuition continues and the regular cancellation policy applies.

If you don't want to keep paying while you're away, you can give 30 days' notice and release the time. When you're ready to return, we'll see what's available.

What if I'm late?

Your lesson still begins and ends at its scheduled time, so arriving late doesn't extend the lesson or create a makeup or credit.

What if I decide to stop lessons?

Just give me 30 days' notice.

Your lesson time remains reserved and tuition remains due during those 30 days. If the notice period ends partway through a month, I'll prorate the final amount for the lessons scheduled during the notice period.

After that, future tuition stops and the lesson time becomes available.

Studio Closures

My scheduled holidays and breaks are already accounted for in tuition, so they don't count as student cancellations.

The studio is closed on Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and the Friday after Thanksgiving. I also take a winter break from December 24 through January 2 and a summer break, with dates announced in advance.
